When workloads are high, thorough project planning is often the first thing to slip. This practical session explores how to use AI as a thinking partner helping you plan faster, think more clearly, and make better decisions without handing over responsibility.

Session Overview This training is designed to help Southwark's small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) tackle the most challenging aspect of their Net Zero journey: Scope 3 emissions. These are all the indirect emissions that occur in your value chain, encompassing your supply chain, waste management, business travel, and digital services. Crucially, Scope 3 often represents the largest portion of a business's total carbon footprint. We will clarify that while you don't have operational control over these sources, your business has significant power to influence and reduce them through smart procurement and policy choices. We will cut through the complexity of the GHG Protocol, providing a clear, practical, and non-technical roadmap for identifying, measuring, and most importantly, reducing your business's Scope 3 footprint through achievable, actionable steps. What You Will Learn · Understanding Scope 3: Get a clear overview of the most relevant Scope 3 categories for small and medium-sized businesses. We show you how to identify the biggest emissions sources, like procurement and waste, regardless of your sector. · The Power of Procurement (Upstream): Learn how to use your purchasing decisions—the Upstream part of your value chain—to implement achievable internal policies and strategic planning that lower the emissions tied to the goods and services you buy. · Collaborating with Suppliers: Understand the fundamentals of engaging with your supply chain to gather essential information and collaboratively drive shared reduction goals. · Managing Your Indirect Impact (Downstream): Learn how to strategically address emissions from business travel, waste management/circularity, and digital services—the Downstream activities you influence every day. · Your Next Steps: Walk away with a priority checklist and a curated list of free resources for starting or advancing your Scope 3 measurement and reduction plan. Who Should Attend This session is ideal for SME owners, directors, and managers in Southwark who have begun measuring their Scope 1 & 2 emissions, or who are ready to take their first practical steps toward a comprehensive Net Zero strategy. No prior carbon accounting experience is required, as the session is designed for participants who may be at different stages along their decarbonisation journeys. We at Better Bankside are well established as champions of our neighbourhood, having served this community for over 21 years. Following a successful ballot last autumn, where 91% of Bankside businesses voted yes to another five years of Better Bankside, we are now into our fifth term and advancing the programme to deliver on promises made in our manifesto. At the AGM we will be delighted to share the headlines of our ambitious new five-year strategy, which sets out how we will achieve our shared vision for a stronger, greener, happier Bankside. Co-created with business leaders and community partners, it draws on insights from over 900 local businesses engaged during our ballot. We would love to hear your thoughts and explore how you or your business can help make this shared vision a reality – there are many opportunities to get involved. The AGM is also an opportunity for us to share the highlights of the past year and for you to meet the Better Bankside board and team. Whilst in effect, we treat all levy payers as members, formally joining Better Bankside will allow you to vote at the AGM. There is a simple process to become a member of Better Bankside. Membership of Better Bankside is open to all BID levy payers, and for others at the discretion of the board. We hope you will be able to join us for the AGM. We are proud to be a privately owned SME with a reputation for excellence working on some of the UK’s most complex infrastructure, planning and social programmes. We also part of the B Corp community and as such play a leading role in positively impacting and transforming the global economy toward a more inclusive, equitable, and regenerative system. How to register Our training sessions are open to all Southwark-based SMEs with fewer than 250 employees. Up to three employees per business are invited to register for each session. In order to join this training, please ensure your organisation has completed the Southwark Climate Collective Registration Form. Accessibility For any dietary or accessibility requirements, please contact us at: info@southwarkclimatecollective.co.uk About the Southwark Climate Collective The Southwark Climate Collective is a partnership project led by Better Bankside, funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and supported by the Mayor of London. In 2024, the project supported 141 SMEs on their net zero journeys, achieving a range of outcomes, from energy savings and increased recycling rates to improved processes and management practices. In the 2025-6 phase, the project is being expanded to support a wider cohort of SMEs across Southwark to prioritise climate action, through bespoke consulting support, a programme of expert-led training, Carbon Literacy Training and a suite of online resources.
