Unseen Tours empowers its guides by providing them with a platform to share their stories, offering paid work, confidence, and opportunities for growth. As a social enterprise, the majority of ticket revenue goes to the guides, with any profit reinvested to support more guides and expand the initiative. David, a lifelong Londoner, will guide you on a fascinating walk along the south side of the Thames, uncovering mystery and history. You'll explore the Bankside and venture into Borough’s hidden alleys, visiting a renowned food market, a gothic cathedral, an infamous prison, and a secret archaeological dig. Along the way, David will share stories of inequality, crime, and ghosts, finishing the tour at one of London’s oldest pubs. The meeting point is outside London Bridge Station, by the Shipwrights Arms (88 Tooley Street, SE1 2UN). You can’t miss the pub, it’s painted bright blue! To ensure you have the best experience on your tour (especially with the weather in London being so unpredictable), we encourage you to wrap up warmly, bring extra layers of clothing, and wear comfortable footwear. Join us for this special event to hear from the young people participating in Bankside Futures this summer. Find out what they have learned during the programme, and how Bankside businesses have supported them to develop new skills and build their confidence. It's also a chance to find out about the social action projects that the young people have worked on in teams, using their new knowledge and skills to create a campaign about an issue that matters to them. There will also be time to celebrate each young person's achievements, as well as enjoy drinks and nibbles and the chance to network. About Bankside Futures Bankside Futures is a summer programme for young people aged 16-18 years old, designed to get them ready for the world of work by meeting a range of Bankside businesses, learning about different jobs and careers, and creating a social action project to share their views about issues that affect the local community. Bankside Futures is delivered by Better Bankside and Sculpt UK. Working in pairs, volunteers will host short interviews to help young people taking part in Bankside Futures this summer to gain useful experience by answering questions about themselves and their achievements. You will be given an interview guide to help you prepare and run the interviews, including a set of interview questions plus feedback forms.  You will also be given mini CVs for each 'candidate' you will interview so you can ask questions related to their skills, experience and future ambitions. At the end of the activity, your feedback will be gathered and discussed with the Bankside Futures team, so that recommendations can be shared with the young people to help them prepare for real-life interviews in the future. As well as in-person interviews, we also need one or two "remote volunteers" who can host online interviews, given how commonplace these are now.  The Bankside Futures team will set up the online interview, so you just need to log on from your device, whether you are in the office or working remotely. You don't need to be an HR professional to sign up for this activity, as it's a great way to develop your skills and confidence as an interviewer. THIS EVENT IS NOW FULLY BOOKED. If you are interested in other ways to support young people get ready for work, please get in touch with Rachel Nicholson. Whether your business has already confirmed its participation in Bankside Futures, or you want to learn more about the different ways to get involved in this summer's programme, you are welcome to attend this breakfast event. It's an opportunity to hear from Sculpt UK, delivery partner for Bankside Futures, about all the ways that Bankside businesses can help young people learn about the world of work; whether that's providing an insight into your sector and its career pathways, delivering a skills-based workshop or helping young people on the programme practice their networking and interview skills. There will also be time to network with other Bankside businesses over tea, coffee and pastries. What is Bankside Futures? Bankside Futures is a two-week summer work experience opportunity for young people aged 16-18 years old who live and/or study in Southwark.  Bankside Futures runs from 8-19 July, and helps young people build their awareness of different careers through skills-based workshops, employer encounters, networking opportunities and more.  Working in teams, the young people will also develop a social action project that responds to issues they care about that affect our neighbourhood. They will present their ideas to family, friends, teachers and Bankside businesses at the end of the programme. Unfortunately, this trait and other behaviours can contribute to burnout and long-term sickness, which in January 2023 was the most common reason for economic inactivity and on the rise. Julia Oyeleye, a natural healthcare practitioner and teacher with over 25 years’ experience, believes it is possible to be successful in your career, whilst managing the impact on your overall health. Join the Bankside Women's Network for this breakfast event with Julia to learn how to spot the early warning signs of burnout and what you can do to support your mind and body to thrive rather than survive, using a seven-step approach with tips that actually work. There will also be plenty of time to get to know other women who work in Bankside and foster new connections. Join one of our volunteering sessions to help wrap the gifts donated by Bankside businesses. You can register for one of two sessions throughout the day: 12.30pm – 2.00pm 3.00pm – 5.00pm All items will be provided, including scissors, tape, wrapping paper and of course the present items to be wrapped. The sessions will be held at Arch 23 (entrance via Flat Iron Square), 45 Southwark Street, London, SE1 9HP If you're registering as a team, you can book a maximum of eight places at each session.  If you'd like to sign up a larger group, please contact kv@betterbankside.co.uk first. If the session you'd like to attend is already fully booked, please add your name to the waiting list and we’ll let you know if any slots become available. We also need your help to make sure we have enough gifts for every local charity. Click here to see what each charity needs and purchase the items you want to donate. Everybody's generous donations will be delivered, ready for wrapping at these volunteer sessions. You might even end up wrapping what you’ve bought! Thank you for your support, with your help, we can share some Christmas cheer with people who might otherwise not get presents from anyone else this year.
