Come along to this breakfast event to learn about the different volunteering opportunities for your business or for yourself.  If you've taken part in Bankside Futures in the past, or have already expressed interest in this summer's programme, you are also welcome to attend this event. At the event, you will hear from Sculpt UK, delivery partner for Bankside Futures, about all the ways that Bankside businesses can help young people learn about the world of work; whether that's providing an insight into your sector and its career pathways, delivering a skills-based workshop or helping young people on the programme practice their networking and interview skills. There will also be time to network with other Bankside businesses over tea, coffee and pastries. What is Bankside Futures? Bankside Futures is a career discovery programme for young people aged 16 – 18 who study or live in Southwark. It is designed to help them learn about the world of work by meeting a range of Bankside businesses and creating a social action project in their community. Over two weeks, from 7 to 18 July, young people will take part in work experience with a twist as they discover new career pathways, take part in tailored workshops, work experience mornings, networking opportunities and mock interviews. Additionally, in small teams, they will use the skills they have developed to create a social action project about something they care about that is affecting Southwark and present this to friends, family, employers and local businesses at the end of the programme. Join volunteers from other Bankside businesses as you work under the expert guidance of the Leaves Breathe team to help bring this 'secret garden' back to life so that the residents can enjoy this tranquil green space. Day outline 9.45am - Welcome and Health & Safety briefing. 10am-12.30pm - Gardening Activity: tasks may include planting, pruning, weeding, and tidying the communal garden areas; helping to tidy and plant beds in the public areas outside Lucy Brown House. 12.30pm-1.30pm – Lunch break and opportunity to meet some of the residents. 1.30pm-4pm – Gardening Activity continues. 4pm-4.30pm – Afternoon tea with residents and ‘Golden Glove’ award ceremony. You don't need to be an expert gardener to get involved, as the Leaves Breathe team will lead the activities and brief you on the tasks you are assigned.  All tools and refreshments will be provided, but please make sure you wear appropriate clothing for an outdoor activity, including closed-toe shoes.  We also recommend bringing a bottle of water, a waterproof jacket, a hat, and sunscreen so that you are prepared for weather conditions on the day. As places are limited for this event, there is a cap of 4 people per business. This also means the group will be made up of a mix of Bankside businesses, making it a great way to get to know your neighbours! You can register for one of two sessions throughout the day: 12.30pm – 2.00pm 3.00pm – 5.00pm All items will be provided, including scissors, tape, wrapping paper and of course the present items to be wrapped. The sessions will be held at Arch 23 (entrance via Flat Iron Square), 45 Southwark Street, London, SE1 9HP If you're registering as a team, you can book a maximum of eight places at each session.  If you'd like to sign up a larger group, please contact kv@betterbankside.co.uk first. Bankside Futures is a career discovery programme for young people aged 16 – 18 who study or live in Southwark. It is designed to help them learn about the world of work by meeting a range of Bankside businesses and creating a social action project in their community. Over two weeks, from 7 to 18 July, young people will take part in work experience with a twist as they discover new career pathways, take part in tailored workshops, work experience mornings, networking opportunities and mock interviews. Additionally, in small teams, they will use the skills they have developed to create a social action project about something they care about that is affecting Southwark and present this to friends, family, employers and local businesses at the end of the programme.
