[post_content] => Join this lunchtime seminar with Winckworth Sherwood to build your understanding of the different types of Power of Attorney, when you might need them and how they can be used. As well as thinking about managing your own affairs, this event is also ideal for anyone with caring responsibilities, or those starting to help ageing parents, or other family and friends manage their finances and plan for their future needs.
Delivered by Tim Snaith, Partner and Head of Department and Philip Sillars, Solicitor, from Winckworth Sherwood’s Private Wealth, Trusts and Tax department, this lunch and learn will cover the scenarios when a Lasting Power of Attorney may be needed, how to register it and practical tips on how to deal with putting it into use. Tim and Philip will also touch on the old “Enduring Powers of Attorney” regime, and court appointed deputies for those who have lost mental capacity without putting a power of attorney in place.
This event is being kindly hosted at Winckworth Sherwood’s offices in the Arbor Building on Blackfriars Road. A light lunch will be provided. It is also an opportunity to find out more about the Bankside Carers' Network and connect with other people who are managing their caring responsibilities alongside working in Bankside.

[post_content] => Better Bankside have teamed up with Positive Planet to provide Carbon Literacy training for Better You!
Join the Positive Planet team, for an informative and interactive Carbon Literacy Certified training course, a qualification recognised by the United Nations. Carbon Literacy training provides organisations with an awareness of the climate-related costs and impacts of their activities and the ability and motivation to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The training is open to any Better Bankside member with the cost covered by Better Bankside.
Is this course right for me?
This course is aimed at Bankside businesses, their employees and anyone looking to increase their awareness of carbon dioxide costs, impacts, and most importantly how to reduce emissions. The course would be especially useful for those people who have a responsibility for sustainability and carbon reduction within their role.
The course will enable you to empower your team to take climate action. The course will also give you the knowledge, skills and confidence to act to reduce your carbon emissions to support your company’s and the UKs Net Zero target.
Where?
This in-person training event will be held at the Tate Modern, entrance is via the staff entrance on Park Street, SE1 9DZ . There will be opportunities to network about your net zero plans with like-minded businesses from across Bankside.
What’s on offer?
Carbon Literate individuals understand how climate change will affect them, both geographically and locally. Individuals who receive Carbon Literacy training typically realise carbon savings of 5-15%.
The aims of the course are:
To gain an understanding of the different greenhouse gases, where they come from and the impact they are having on our climate.
To acquire a sense of urgency about the climate emergency.
To know how you can reduce your carbon footprint.
To understand your role in your company’s Carbon Reduction Plan and journey to Net Zero.
To empower you to take action and influence others.
The benefits for your business:
Encourages new ideas and efficiencies within the organisation.
Explains the rationale for change and action.
Allows you to build a network of like-minded businesses that can result in future partnerships and collaborations.
Enhanced reputation and profile of organisation.
Improved competitiveness.
This course is the equivalent of 8 hours of CPD training and requires attendees to carry out tasks prior to attending the in-person course. During the course, attendees will need to complete a personal and corporate pledge, which will be submitted to the Carbon Literacy Project for assessment and certification.
More information on how to make your organisation Carbon Literate can be found here.
Refreshments
Tea, coffee and water will be available throughout the day with a light breakfast on arrival and a veggie lunch provided.

[post_content] => This is a starter course for anyone who either has no idea about anti-racism, doesn’t associate themselves with being racist or those who have just started to educate themselves. During this training session, we will look at understanding racism and what an anti-racism practice is. This session will cover topics such as the history of race, the four dimensions of racism, and terminology including white privilege, micro-aggressions, intersectionality and racial gaslighting, as well as allyship and what’s next.
Outcomes of the session:
An understanding of why tackling racism is not the responsibility of Black people and People of Colour
An explanation of language associated with racism
Increased confidence in speaking openly about racism
Support with how to continue your anti-racist journey
We recommend signing up to the follow up ‘how to influence your sphere’ training on 5 Feb to learn how to be a proactive anti-racist ally.
This event will be held online, and a video link will be supplied.
This training course is delivered by Everyday Racism, an organisation that seeks to educate and provide resourced on being actively anti-racist. It was set up by sisters Natalie and Naomi Evans as a platform to share stories from Black and Brown people to highlight their everyday experiences of racism in the UK. It quickly evolved to share education information about language and anti-racist terminology, and now Everyday Racism provides training courses, workshops and educational resources all based around how to be actively anti-racist.

[post_content] => This training session is for those who have been learning and educating themselves on being anti-racist, and want to put their learning into action. The course is ideal as a follow up to the Intro to Anti-Racism course on 22 Jan. This course will look at the importance of showing up, allyship and intersectionality, being an inactive and active bystander, influencing your sphere and how to implement real change.
Outcomes of the session:
An understanding of how racism shows up for people every day
Awareness of how you can influence your sphere and make lasting change in the world around you
What actions you can take in daily life to be a proactive ally rather than a bystander
Increased confidence to stand up against racism
Practical ways of living an anti-racist life
You will be sent some pre-work to complete ahead of this session to help you get the most from it.
This training will be held online and a link provided before the training.
This event is part of Better You, our wellbeing programme designed to help you kickstart the new year with energy and positivity. January is an ideal time to explore new activities and sharpen your skills, and Better You is here to support you every step of the way. Our range of free activities offers something for everyone, and we’d love for you to join us for other events too!

[post_content] => Does the thought of giving a presentation to a room of colleagues fill you with dread? Do you find presenting online in Teams or Zoom difficult? If you have ever needed to win a pitch, share your work in a clear and interesting way or even convince others of your point of view, then this workshop is for you. It is suitable for all levels of ability and for people who want to become confident, articulate and engaging speakers.
You will learn the fundamentals of good communication, including voice control, body language and powerful connection. This interactive session will cover speaking in person and how to adapt to presenting online. You will learn how to create great content and to get your message across and will finish the session a stronger, more effective speaker.
Speakers Trust is a charity dedicated to training people to become more effective communicators and provides opportunities for them to share their perspectives in public. The organisation helps people become better communicators, with a greater awareness of the importance of speaking out. This improves education and employment prospects as well as the desire to use the power of their voice to bring positive change. Once participants see that they can overcome their fear of public speaking and use their voice to effect change, they are empowered to achieve across a range of areas, with benefits spreading to the home, workplace and community.
“I attended the public speaking session and I just wanted to let you know how fantastic it was. Jenny was an incredible trainer and it has been the best training session I have ever attended. I really believe that her training will have an impact on my public speaking skills.”The session will be held at MCM Studio, 131 Great Suffolk St, London SE1 1PP. You can see more information about the venue here.
Spaces are limited, if you are no longer able to attend please cancel your place in advance to allow someone from the waiting list to take your place.
