Join our Bankside Street Party on Thursday 15th June as we come together to reclaim the street with food, drinks and games as we wrap up Clean Air Day. The street party will be taking place on Union Street (outside Audrey’s) from 18:00 – 20:00.
The street party will wrap up a whole programme of exciting events running throughout the day across Bankside – all for you to get involved with as we educate and celebrate Clean Air Day. From lunch time gardening to a Think-In at the Tate, from ‘Drawing Breath’ workshop with artist Dryden Goodwin to bike maintenance workshop. Take a look at all of the activities going on across Bankside for Clean Air Day.
Clean Air Day is all about raising awareness of air quality and the significant impact it has on our health – particularly for those of us living and working in Bankside. In London, over 9,000 premature deaths are associated with air pollution every year. From respiratory conditions such as asthma to cardiovascular disease and lung cancer, recent studies are showing the increasing links between our health and cleaner air. This year also marks the 10-year anniversary of the death of Ella Adoo Kissi Debrah – the first person in the UK to have air pollution listed as a cause of death on her death certificate. Ella’s Law is currently being reviewed by the House of Lords to establish a child’s right to grow up in a healthy environment and to breathe clean air.
The more we can do to raise awareness of air quality, the more we can do to protect our health and understand what needs to be done.
