Bankside’s Frost Fair is live until 31 January 2023 – but what is it and where is it?
The 2022-23 Bankside Frost Fair is a retelling of the stories, characters and histories of the extraordinary phenomenon when the River Thames used to freeze over through art, food, drink and activities.
Unique to the Bankside area, local businesses rallied to make the best of the ice that froze trade and created food, drink and activities to drive commerce and interest and we’re doing the same again.
Our modern Frost Fair has 3 elements:
– A multimedia art trail involving 12 distinct art pieces that tell the tales through murals, animation and AR.
– Food and drink specials in selected restaurants and bars across the area (Check the food section of our Frost Fair pages to discover the taste of the Fair)
– Events and activities including history tours, theatre shows and lino printing!
Is there a Frost Fair market? Well yes, we have one of the best markets in the world with Borough Market on our patch, and you might just find some Frost Fair goodies on offer as you wander around!
