From 18-31 March, Better Bankside brings In Bloom to Borough Yards — a pop-up light and sound installation in the heart of Bankside, London. Located in Soap Yard, the immersive sculpture invites visitors of all ages to play, explore, and connect through sound, light, and movement.

Created by Kumquat Lab, In Bloom takes the form of a luminous plant. Each of its glowing spheres responds to touch, producing musical notes inspired by the process of pollination, as bees and insects move from flower to flower. Visitors can create their own rhythms and melodies, turning the installation into a shared, interactive experience.

The installation is part of Better Bankside’s ongoing placemaking programme, using public art to animate streets and public spaces while reflecting the area’s distinct identity as “London’s Other Side.” By encouraging play and interaction, In Bloom brings people together and offers a new way to experience Bankside.

Its pollination theme also connects to Better Bankside’s wider greening strategy, highlighting the role of nature in urban environments and the importance of supporting biodiversity in cities. Through installations like this, Better Bankside continues to create a neighbourhood that is creative, welcoming, and connected.
