The Goodlife Centre invites you to take a break from the digital world and get hands on with tools and materials in their wonderful workshop.

In this session, you’ll have fun working with wood using modern and traditional hand tools. Hammer nails, saw wood, drill something… and express stress by energy transfer in the doing. Think of these sessions as sensory play for grown-ups, for a small window in your day you can enjoy some light touch destruction/construction, alongside tea and biscuits. You’ll also have the chance to see some of The Goodlife Centre courses in action.

Based in a 1950s factory building in Bankside, The Goodlife Centre offers a range of courses in often forgotten practical skills and crafts from woodworking to tiling, upholstery and drilling. Frustrated desk bound creatives often leave with a sense of wonder, able to hold something they have made.

We at Better Bankside are well established as champions of our neighbourhood, having served this community for over 21 years. Following a successful ballot last autumn, where 91% of Bankside businesses voted yes to another five years of Better Bankside, we are now into our fifth term and advancing the programme to deliver on promises made in our manifesto. At the AGM we will be delighted to share the headlines of our ambitious new five-year strategy, which sets out how we will achieve our shared vision for a stronger, greener, happier Bankside. Co-created with business leaders and community partners, it draws on insights from over 900 local businesses engaged during our ballot. We would love to hear your thoughts and explore how you or your business can help make this shared vision a reality – there are many opportunities to get involved. The AGM is also an opportunity for us to share the highlights of the past year and for you to meet the Better Bankside board and team. Whilst in effect, we treat all levy payers as members, formally joining Better Bankside will allow you to vote at the AGM. There is a simple process to become a member of Better Bankside. Membership of Better Bankside is open to all BID levy payers, and for others at the discretion of the board. We hope you will be able to join us for the AGM. Please RSVP to ng@betterbankside.co.uk and feel free to get in touch with any questions. An invitation to the AGM was sent to all Better Bankside levy payers by post, you can read it here: Better Bankside Annual General Meeting letter 2025 Download Better Bankside’s draft financial statements for the year ending 31 March 2025. Join volunteers from other Bankside businesses as you work under the expert guidance of the Leaves Breathe team to help bring some autumn colour into this 'secret garden' and then spend time getting to know some of the people who live at Lucy Brown House. Event outline 1.30 - 3.30pm - Gardening Activity: tasks may include planting, pruning, weeding, and tidying the communal garden areas; helping to tidy and plant beds in the public areas outside Lucy Brown House. 3.30 - 4.30pm - Games with the residents: join in with cards, pool, darts and drinks, plus plenty of laughter! You don't need to be an expert gardener to get involved, as the Leaves Breathe team will lead the activities and brief you on the tasks you are assigned.  All tools and refreshments will be provided, but please make sure you wear appropriate clothing for an outdoor activity, including closed-toe shoes.  We also recommend bringing a bottle of water, a waterproof jacket, a hat, and sunscreen so that you are prepared for weather conditions on the day. As places are limited for this event, there is a cap of 4 people per business. This also means the group will be made up of a mix of Bankside businesses, making it a great way to get to know your neighbours! Get involved with Bankside Futures this summer by volunteering for this fun speed-networking event.

This fast-paced volunteer activity is an opportunity to help local young people practice their networking skills and build their confidence to talk to new people.  Networking is a vital part of everyone’s career, but many of us still find it daunting.  So this event is also a chance to practice your own networking skills and get to know volunteers from other Bankside businesses.

Ahead of the event, the Bankside Futures team will share an overview of the types of questions to expect from the young people, focusing on your current role and career pathway, along with some tips on handling difficult or personal questions.

There will also be a full briefing at the start of the event, and a chance to practice networking with the other volunteers before the young people arrive.  It's a great opportunity for anyone who wants to build their confidence to network, making it an ideal volunteering opportunity for young professionals in particular.

Participation in this event is limited to individuals who work for Bankside businesses.

Get involved with Bankside Futures this summer by volunteering at this mock interview activity.

Working in pairs, volunteers will conduct short interviews to help young people participating in Bankside Futures this summer gain valuable experience by answering questions about themselves and their achievements.

In addition to a briefing at the start of the activity, you will be provided with an interview guide to help you prepare and conduct the interviews, including a set of interview questions and feedback forms.

At the end of the activity, your feedback will be gathered and discussed with the Bankside Futures team, so that recommendations can be shared with the young people to help them prepare for real-life interviews in the future.

As well as in-person interviews, we also need one or two "remote volunteers" who can host online interviews, given how commonplace these are now.  The Bankside Futures team will set up the online interview, so you will just need to log on from your device, whether you are in the office or working remotely.

You don't need to be an HR professional to sign up for this activity, as it's a great way to develop your skills and confidence as an interviewer.

If you are interested in other ways to support young people get ready for work, please get in touch with Rachel Nicholson.

Participation in this event is limited to individuals who work for Bankside businesses.
