This workshop will explore what goes wrong with recycling in the workplace, and how to design simple systems to help everyone get it right.

Ever found yourself staring at the office bins, meal-deal wrapper in hand, wondering where on earth you’re supposed to put it? Is it plastic...is it paper...does it even matter which bin it goes in? Waste doesn’t have to be this frustrating. In this practical workshop, we’ll explore what goes wrong with recycling in the workplace, and how to design simple systems to help everyone get it right, with less effort. We'll also tie your bin habits to the bigger picture, looking at the effects of waste systems on global warming and the environment, and how better recycling even helps your business save money. Led by Kirsten Zoe Smith, Net Zero Strategist at Recorra and recycling expert, the session includes:
  • Common workplace recycling slip-ups and how to avoid them
  • An interactive ‘what bin does it go in?’ quiz (plus a chance to stump the trainer!)
  • Real examples from businesses that made it work and saved money doing it
You’ll also get useful tools to take away, such as a best bin-practice guide and simple signage ideas. This session is perfect for anyone in your team who wants to help your business recycle more, to save money, with less effort. How to Register Our training sessions are open to all Southwark-based SMEs with fewer than 250 employees. Up to three employees per business are invited to register for each session. This online session gives participating SMEs the knowledge and tools to measure, understand, and act on their carbon footprint.

Carbon Accounting, Offsetting and Credits This online session gives participating SMEs the knowledge and tools to measure, understand, and act on their carbon footprint. They will learn how to break down their emissions into the three scopes, use free online calculators with confidence, and recognise credible carbon offsets. Through interactive sessions, they’ll test a simple carbon calculator, practice boundary setting, and brainstorm carbon reductions that can be tailored to their business. By the end, they’ll have a clear starting point for tracking emissions, identifying reduction opportunities, and making informed offsetting decisions that support their business and sustainability goals. You'll be surprised at the volume and variety of plastics found by the river; helping to remove these will make an immediate difference to our local environment and wider marine ecosystems. We'll meet opposite Marsha restaurant / Gourmet Pizza on Gabriel's Wharf at 9.30am for a briefing from Recorra before heading down to the foreshore, where we will work our way back towards Bankside. Please wear suitable, closed-toe shoes. We are running this event during low tide, but the surfaces along the Thames can be slippery. Please also dress appropriately for the weather.  High-vis jackets, bin bags, litter pickers and gloves will all be provided. Once the beach clean is completed, we will send you a certificate with the amount of waste collected by everyone. As places are limited for this event, there is a cap of 6 people per business. If you register but can no longer attend, please cancel with as much notice as possible to allow someone from the waiting list the opportunity to take your place. Take part in the Annual Pollinator Count!

Join us and Pollinating London Together as we take part in their annual count of pollinating insects; bees, butterflies, and more, at some of London’s most iconic landmarks. This time, we’ll be heading to St Paul’s Gardens to continue our shared mission of supporting urban biodiversity.

Dan, our urban gardener, will meet the group outside the Better Bankside offices and walk over together.

Before the event:
Please download the FIT Count app to your device and follow the guidance provided. If you have any issues, we’ll be happy to help on the day.

At the end of your survey, you’ll be asked to select a project, please choose Pollinating London Together.

It’s a brilliant way to connect with nature, contribute to citizen science, and spend some time outdoors.
