Plastics are a problem. Only 9% of plastic ever made has been recycled. Plastic waste consistently makes up over 60% of litter found on UK beaches and the issue with plastic waste is that is never disappears, it just gets smaller and smaller.
Join other Bankside volunteers for this lunchtime clean up on the Thames foreshore, led by Paper Round, to help remove plastic waste from the banks of the Thames. You’ll be surprised at the volume and variety of plastics that can be found by the river, helping to remove these will make an immediate difference to our local environment as well as wider marine ecosystems.
Meet at Gabriel’s Wharf at 11.45am for a briefing from Paper Round before heading down to the foreshore where we will work our way back to Bankside.
Please wear suitable, closed toe shoes – we are running this event during low tide but surfaces along the Thames can be slippery. Please also dress appropriately for the weather.
High vis jackets, bin bags, litter pickers and gloves will all be provided.
If you register but can no longer attend, please cancel with as much notice as possible to allow someone from the waiting list the opportunity to go in your place.
Even though COVID restrictions have been lifted we ask that anyone feeling unwell, or displaying Covid symptoms do not attend on the day. It is also important that we continue to respect the personal boundaries and wishes of others with regards to personal space, mask wearing, and physical contact.
