Volunteers are needed to help children at Charles Dickens Primary School build their confidence in reading.
One in four children leave primary school unable to read to the expected standard. This means they are unable to fully access their secondary education, which will have a life-long impact on their opportunities.
We’re helping Charles Dickens Primary School find volunteers who will visit the school once a week for an hour during the school day to work with pupils, improving their reading ability, comprehension, and enjoyment of reading.
Volunteers don’t need any specific skills or prior experience, but will need to have a DBS check carried out by the school. We are also looking for volunteers who can commit to at least half a term (from 23 February to 25 March), but preferably for the rest of the current school year (from 23 February to 23 July, excluding school holidays). Volunteers can also buddy up with a colleague or another volunteer, taking turns to attend each week.
If you are interested in this volunteering opportunity, please complete the Expression of Interest form. We will then follow up with you about the next steps.
If you would like to know more about this or other local volunteering opportunities, please get in touch with Rachel Nicholson, Better Bankside’s Responsible Business and Inclusion Manager.
