Waste Electrical and Electronic Sweep

Our Better Bankside WEEE (waste electrical and electronic equipment) sweep returns. The next sweep will be taking place over two days, 18th and 19th April. You now need to book a slot on one of the days, which you can do by clicking on the links below. April 18 WEEE collection - click here April 19 WEEE collection -click here Did you know that each year, an estimated 2 million tonnes of WEEE items are discarded by households and companies in the UK? Our WEEE sweep is a free service for Bankside businesses to help you and your colleagues to recycle your electronic goods – an important part of recovering precious natural resources and curbing climate-changing emissions.

What can I recycle in the WEEE sweep?

Find out more information about what you can recycle and where it ends up here. Recorra will collect your WEEE with either a roll cage or clearance container. Any questions? Our program will include something for everyone, from a low emissions walking tour, a bike maintenance workshop and a gardening activity to air quality talks and a play street for local primary schools on Redcross Way. We'll wrap up the day with a Bankside Street Party on Union Street, between Southwark Bridge Road and Ayres Street, where there will be delicious food, refreshing drinks, and exciting entertainment to come together and celebrate. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn more about air pollution and its impact on health while having fun with the community. We look forward to seeing you there! Here are the events on the day - click on the links to learn more and sign up. 9am - 11am: Climate Network Think In at Tate Modern  12pm - 2pm: Bike Maintenance Workshop at Better Bankside's Arch on Southwark Street  12.30pm - 1.30pm: Gardening Session Greening The Bankside Urban Forest  2.30pm - 4.30pm: 'Drawing Breath' Workshop with Dryden Goodwin at Borough Yards  4pm - 5pm: The Tyre Collective Interactive Discussion at Audrey's  5pm - 6pm: Take To The Side Streets Walking Tour with Mr Londoner  6pm - 8pm: Bankside Street Party   Download our Clean Air Day events poster   Why are we celebrating Clean Air Day? Clean Air Day is all about raising awareness of air quality and the significant impact it has on our health - particularly for those of us living and working in Bankside. In London, over 9,000 premature deaths are associated with air pollution every year. From respiratory conditions such as asthma to cardiovascular disease and lung cancer, recent studies are showing the increasing links between our health and cleaner air. 2023 also marks the 10-year anniversary of the death of Ella Adoo Kissi Debrah - the first person in the UK to have air pollution listed as a cause of death on her death certificate. Ella's Law is currently being reviewed by the House of Lords to establish a child's right to grow up in a healthy environment and to breathe clean air. The more we can do to raise awareness of air quality, the more we can protect our health and understand what needs to be done. The Bankside Urban Forest is a long-term project to create a new type of greening initiative in central London. The Lowline is an ambitious project that aims to transform the railway viaducts in Southwark into a vibrant, green space for the local community. Both projects are part of a wider effort to create a more sustainable, resilient, and inclusive city. At this event, you will have the opportunity to hear from various designers and experts on the projects' evolution, including the challenges they have faced, the progress made so far, and the vision for the future. You will also be able to ask questions and participate in discussions with other attendees. The event will be an excellent opportunity to learn more about Bankside’s Urban Forest and Lowline and to meet like-minded people who are passionate about creating a better environment for all. For Earth Day 2023 we're hosting our Climate Network Think-In to bring Banksiders together as we explore, learn and share ideas for driving climate action. The theme for Earth Day this year is 'Invest in our Planet' - encouraging us to think about how we use our resources to take action on climate change. Whether that's how we invest our time, our interests, our skills, or our finances. We'll hear a short presentation from each of our speakers with the chance to explore these topics in more depth through a Panel Discussion and Q&A. There will then be an opportunity to share your own ideas and explore opportunities to collaborate with local businesses in our breakout session.
